Whale Watching
Kaikōura is world renowned for the opportunity to whale watch, where you can observe the whales either from above in an aircraft or by boat right beside them.
The award winning Whale Watch gets you beside the whales during their migration, usually between June and August each year. While the resident pod of sperm whales, one of the few places in the world, can be seen year round feeding off the coastline.
There are also a number of local operators flying in aeroplanes and helicopters from the Kaikōura airport down the coast who will take you out over the bay to find the pod of whales and other sea life.
