Arts & Culture
New Plymouth is the home of the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, an impressive contemporary art installation in its own right with its mirrorlike stainless steel curved exterior walls. It is New Zealand's first example of destination architecture linked to contemporary art.
Govett-Brewster's latest addition is the Len Lye Centre, the first institution dedicated to a single artist, filmmaker and kinetic sculptor, Len Lye. The Gallery presents artworks by contemporary artists as well as showing the breadth and depth of the Len Ly Collection and Archive.
Puke Ariki is New Plymouth's multi-award winning museum and information centre on the waterfront. You are able to explore Taranaki's past, present and future through telling the stories of the people and the region. While there are permanent exhibitions the museum continually has a range of temporary exhibits.
There is also many events through out the year including the Festival of Lights and WOMAD, see our Events page for more details.
